A 23-year-old woman in China had been complaining of headaches, eye and thigh pain for a long time when she was diagnosed with Cysticercosis.
The doctors suggested that she do the Magnetic Resonance and Tomography, where she discovered that her body was infected by many parasites.
Her brother said that their family usually ate raw pork, thus revealing the reason for the parasites in her body.
“The girl had swollen eyes, retinal hemorrhages, infections throughout the body and epileptic seizures,” said Professor Meng Qiang, chief physician of the Department of Neurology.
He also said that such cases have serious consequences as parasitic worms have a great impact on the brain and affect the central nervous system. Then, he added that they can also cause paralysis of the limbs, sensory damage, etc.
The doctors decided to give him small doses of insecticides to cure him. If care is not taken, it can get worse after the parasites are gone, leading to inflammatory reactions or severe allergic reactions.
Although it is not known what happened to the girl after the disease was discovered, there are some simple ways to prevent cysticercosis.
You must wash your hands after going to the toilet, after changing diapers and before eating bread. Wash and peel fruits and vegetables before eating, and drink bottled water or water that has been boiled for at least one minute in places where tap water is not potable.
And of course, don’t eat raw pork!
